Chicago HD co-owner and editor Steve Panning and his wife Jennifer welcome their first son, Luke Joseph, into the world. Mom and baby are happy and healthy.

Chicago HD moves into our current, beautiful remodeled offices at 1 E. Erie near Michigan Avenue. Offices are shared with BAM Studios, Chicago’s best audio post-production facility. Chicago HD’s customers now have access to high-end audio post in stereo and 5.1 surround.

Chicago HD acquires Silicon Color’s Final Touch HD software and Tangent Device’s CP-200 controller – offering high-end, cost-effective HD & SD color grading solutions to our customers. Bob Sliga, freelance colorist, worked with us to complete our first HD film using Final Touch HD – I. Michael Toth’s “Cast In Gray”, shot on a Varicam at 720/24p and edited in SD on Final Cut Pro. High Definition conforming & mastering by Chicago HD’s Steve Panning; color grading by colorist Bob Sliga.
Final Touch HD has opened our doors to customer’s seeking awesome color correction and DI. Dozens of commercials and independent films are graded at Chicago HD in the coming months.

Chicago HD takes delivery of AJA’s new Kona II HD & SD card and breakout box. Our HD suite’s PowerMac is upgraded to a G5 and our Blackmagic card is re-purposed to build up our offline room. Our HD suite upgrades to a 24” Sony HD CRT monitor.

DVCProHD just got better at Chicago HD. The Panasonic AJ-HD1700 is now on our equipment roster. This studio-grade DVCProHD machine offer eight channels of audio and handles mini, regular and oversize DVCPro and DVCAM tapes. This deck is available for rent.

Chicago HD Corp. sponsored the Midwest Independent Film Festival for the 2005 season. We converted all of MIFF’s films to 720p HD and provided show reels on a monthly basis. Our sponsorship culminated with the creation of MIFF’s year-end awards videos — two awards videos, approximately 10 minutes each.

Chicago HD Corp. moves into a more spacious studio in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. Formats supported include HDCAM, DVCProHD, Digital Betacam, Beta SP and DVCAM. We soon switched from CineWave to Blackmagic I/O on a G4 PowerMac platform. Storage is upgraded from 1.8T SCSI to 3.5T Fiber Channel.

Chicago HD Corp. opens its first HD edit suite in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood and was the first post-production company in Chicago to edit uncompressed HD with a G3 PowerMac and Final Cut Pro. Sony HDCAM and Digibeta were our tape formats of choice and Pinnacle’s CineWave served as our original system I/O.
