HD and SD Video Conversions

Chicago HD's high-def machines all have the ability to convert HD and SD video very well. To extend our abilities even further we turned to a name trusted in the conversion business, Teranex. Our stand-alone Terenex converter is a high-quality device that creates awesome re-scaled HD and SD images. To handle HDV, we employ a Miranda HDV encoder to convert 1080i HDV to uncompressed 1080i or cross-convert to 720p HD. This converter features HD-SDI outputs, embedded SDI or AES audio and a serial port, enabling device control for uncompressed capture directly into an NLE. Using the Miranda Bridge in conjunction with the Teranex converter is the perfect solution for customers who are using HDV and need to downconvert to SD. We provide solutions like this to keep our customer's video in the digital domain 100% of the time, avoiding a conversion to analog video unless the specifications of the deliverable demand it. This is something that most other companies don't do.

Please refer to our FAQ for more information.

Chicago HD supports most professional compressed and uncompressed HD formats, including: Sony HDCAM-SR (both 4:4:4 and 4:2:2), Sony HDCAM, Panasonic Multi-Format D5 and DVCProHD, RED footage, P2 media and Sony 1080i HDV. Standard definition formats include: Sony Digital Betacam, Beta SP, DVCAM, DVCPro, DVD and VHS.

HD Video Downconversions

Downconversions are essentially lower-res dubs of HD sources. Offline editing with SD video requires less storage capacity and enables editors to do their creative cutting more affordably on their current systems. We can downconvert all of our supported HD formats to all of our supported SD formats.

SD Video Upconversions

High definition productions often require the inclusion of standard definition material because the footage is vital to telling the story. Chicago HD upconverts SD footage to HD so you can incorporate it in your high def master. Please refer to our list of supported formats.

HD Cross Conversions

Need to cross convert 720p to 1080i? Need to go the other way around? Clone from one HD format to another? We do that.
