So you have project files archived to LTO-4 tapes and LTO-5 tapes that you need to restore for your next project? Chicago HD can help you with that.
LTO, or Linear Tape-Open, is an open standard tape media that is an ideal solution for video archival needs. One LTO-5 tape can hold up to 1.39 TB of uncompressed data and 2.78 TB of compressed data. The medium itself takes up half the physical space of traditional external hard drives, and tape is more durable and reliable over time. The half-inch magnetic tape cartridges are perfect for archiving irreplaceable content, since there are fewer instances of failure due to less moving mechanical parts and electronics. When stored properly, each tape can last up to 30 years — making it an economical long-term storage solution. The problem is that you have the LTO tapes, but you don’t know how to transfer the contents to a format you can use. Chicago HD can transfer the data from those tapes onto your external hard drives so you can recover your media and start editing without having to deal with the headaches of a foreign, time-consuming process.
Although LTO tape has advanced in generations to be able to store more data than LTO-5, we continue to offer LTO-5 archival services as well. Need to archive digital media or footage from HDCAM-SR, HDCAM, Digital Betacam, Betacam SP or DVCAM tapes? We’ll digitize it for you and back it up to LTO-5 tape. You won’t have to worry about losing any valuable information when your media is securely backed up to LTO-5.
